Here's the first of two entries in another little Arashi lyricspam! I get a lot of requests for these guys lately... wonder why that is...? :B
This is one that I was honored to be asked to translate, the ever-popular Nino solo Kako. Yeah, he writes the title with characters reading 'konseki' (traces), but it is in fact called Kako (the past) according to Nino himself on Bay Storm. Weird boy. Anyway, as goes without saying, this is a gorgeous song that has made me sorta kinda tear up on more than one occasion, so I do hope I captured the lonely, nostalgic sadness in it. Without further ado here it is!
Arashi (Ninomiya Kazunari) - Kako
Kienu kienu samidare no ato
Kawakanu namida no ato
Kesenu kesenu yamiyo ni ukabu
Itoshiki hito no kage
Yuuyake kawara o aruiteru
Kimi to issho ni egao tsurete
Kyou no bangohan nani shiyou?
Chiisa na sugoku chiisa na futsuu no shiawase
Shinde itta anata wa boku no kokoro ni shimite ikita
Hoka no hito o aishite mo
Hoka no hito de shika arimasen
Ikudo to naku kisetsu mataide mo
Hontou wa hanarete wa kieru no ga kowakute
Sumire o mitsume kono hana kirei
Demo itsuka wa kareru no ne...
Toki wa yuugure shu ni majiwaru to
Minamo ni futari nokoshite...
Kage wa kage o kasanete
Hitotsu ni naru no o osorete
Kizuku no ga ososhi to
Minamo ni hitori...
Ano hi umeta kokoro no tane wa
Hatsuka sugi mebukimashita
Sugata katachi chigaedo kawaranu ai
Yasashii hikari
Never fading, never fading, traces of the early summer's rain
The tracks left by tears never dry
I can't erase, I can't erase the shadow of the one I love
That arises in the dark night
Walking along the riverside as the sun sets
Together with you and our smiles
What should we do for dinner today?
It was a small, such a small, everyday kind of happiness
After you died, you went on living deep in my heart
Even if I come to love someone else
They'll never be more than just "someone else"
Even if I continue on through countless seasons
The truth is, I'm afraid that if I let go, you'll disappear
Gazing at this violet, it's so beautiful
But one day it will wither...
Time blends with the crimson of the evening
Leaving two reflections on the water's surface...
I was so afraid to see those silhouettes
Join together to become one
I noticed it too late
Only one is reflected there...
The seeds I buried in my heart then
Began to sprout after the twentieth day
The form, the shape may be different, but the love is unchanging
A gently shining light

I do hope I captured the lonely, nostalgic sadness in it.
You sure did. Thanks!
love the song esp. if it was perfromed with utmost emotions. ^^;;
Keep up the great work! I'm definitely your fan, when it comes to the world of translation!
I remember forcing my friend to watch Iza! Now with me, and I started crying when this song started playing and she looked at me funny XD
Very good translation though! Thank you ^^
Thanks very much^^

Even if I come to love someone else
They'll never be more than just "someone else."
for a really long time.
Different translations I had read had it as something along the lines of...he COULD love someone else, but there just isn't anyone else except the person he's speaking to.
I tried translating it to Korean so I could try to understand it better, which got me something like:
"다른 사람을 사랑해도, [다른 사람으로 밖에 없습니다/다른 사람 밖에 아닙니다."
x__x Which would be "Even if I love another person, they are nothing more than just another person/they are just another person." So I was really confused. Thank you so much for clearing that up! T__T I feel happy to finally know. Haha.
Hehe, glad I could clear it up for you too :D
*sigh* such a sad song. T__T
the only line i could understand before reading the translations was 'what's for dinner' and somehow the.. simplicity of that line struck me. well, the music caught me first, otherwise i wouldn't pay attention to the lyrics.
i cried without even understanding what he's singing, but the song just has this sad, melancholic feel to it.
And thank you for the compliment! ♥
awesome translation, as always, becky-san. thank you.
I hope Nino fans won't hurt me for spreading it. <<;;
B-But a few nights ago I finally watched their Iza, Now concert and, without even realizing I've watched it before on YouTube, I fell in LUVRZ. I love soft songs being sung passionately by a cutesy hamburger-handed boy.
♥
Hey, a good sign of sanity is having a good enough sense of humor able to laugh at parodies of stuff you love. I think sanity is considered a good thing. :D
They'll never be more than just "someone else"
That's always been my favourite line in the song. WEEPING. Nino's such an emo genius.
It's amazing how you always manage to make the translation flow so smoothly without losing the original (for lack of a better word) flavour of the song.
After reading your translation, this might be the first time this song has made me cry. You used words that really have a deep effect on the song itself. Thank you so much for translating this. ^_____^
but i kinda like yours more..hahha.
otsukaresama deshita!^^
Traces of the past?
I got teary-eyed reading the translation, thank you.
Kako officially launched my love fest with the little twerp. It sounds so corny but I've been captivated by this song ever since I heard it. And there's just no other for it but beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
And there's no other way to describe your translation but perfection. The lyrics always inspires me to believe in a love like this. Eh, so serious all of a sudden right? On a lighter note, how the heck does that game loving freak manage to create such beauty?
For you Becky, I have nothing but ♥♥♥
thanks for the translations :)
Is it alright if I use your lyric translations for headers? I'll properly credit you in my user info, of course, but I may do it more than once (just with Nino songs though) and definitely want to ask for credit before I do it again (if it's alright with you this time). ><;
I'm using this song as my first foray into subbing and was wondering if I could use your translation? I will credit, of course. I just don't want to use them without permission.
(And sorry for the delay; took longer than I expected to recover from the dead after I got home from LA on Tuesday, heh ^^;)
