Ketsumeishi - Tsutaetai Koto

And here it is - the last track of the requested Ketsumeishi album, Tsutaetai Koto! Definitely had some interesting times translating this album... got a lot of studying and learning in, too XD Best of all, it brought in 15 songs' worth of donations to help the relief effort in Japan - totally worth it ♥

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Tsutaetai Koto (The thing I want to tell you)

RomajiCollapse )

You ask, "Why is the grass green?"
You ask, "Why do flowers have so many colors?"
Those are the colors God chose
To make each of them stand out in their own way
As long as we don't ruin that
We can live here too

Grass is given the color that suits it best
Flowers are given the colors that suit them best
And your color is what suits you best
All are destined to keep shining on and on

More new sprouts will appear again today
Awakening in turn as the sunlight bathes them
Eventually sunset will paint the blue sky
Slowly time passes and the day ends
The lush forest and the green of the grass and trees
Begin changing their colors to match the season
The trees growing toward the sunlight
Surely don't think about what it all means
They don't know the meaning themselves, but
As long as they live, they do have a meaning
All living things besides humans have no goals
They just devote themselves to living, and one day disappear
We gaze in awe at their brilliant colors
If you think about it, we're a part of it too
There are methods and rules we must not break
Nature reflects our behavior

Grass is given the color that suits it best
Flowers are given the colors that suit them best
And your color is what suits you best
All are destined to keep shining on and on

Unchanging even in the quiet, peaceful days
The colors of the grass, trees, and flowers tell nothing
The flowers wait for spring, greenery blazes in summer
Autumn is colored red, buds endure the winter
The colors God gave them
And the days that end unnoticed
We must not forget their meaning
We must not lose these days
The turning seasons will color you again
Sweetly, faintly melting into your heart
Even as they surpass time, memories come dancing back
Allowing us to live again, as life itself dances
What do flowers that scatter in the morning leave behind?
What do flowers that bloom in the morning think?
I'll give words to your colors and the colors of the flowers
And convey them through this song

The rustle of swaying grass
The fragrance of peacefully blooming flowers
Are joined by the laughter of children and become one
All born in the same world
All passing the same time
Through past and present, nothing has changed

Grass is given the color that suits it best
Flowers are given the colors that suit them best
And your color is what suits you best
All are destined to keep shining on and on

Ketsumeishi - S.O.S

So both of the last two songs from the Ketsumeishi tracklist are the type that express a message intended to make people think. That usually either means environmental themes or social/tolerance themes. I'll let you figure out which category each of these last two songs respectively falls into. :3 yeah, sleepiness does things to your coherence level, yo

Enjoy S.O.S~

Ketsumeishi - S.O.S

RomajiCollapse )

The planet where I live is clear blue, with forests, deserts, seas, and flowing rivers
It's a beautiful planet, but a sad one where people kill each other

What about the planet where you live?
Can anyone hear me?
S.O.S S.O.S S.O.S Please respond

If I can make contact with you, I'll send you this message
I'd like you to compare the things happening on my planet
To what happens on your planet
Just what is so different about them?
I can see it with my own eyes, and yet
My message won't reach that faraway planet
If you're close by
I want to hear your answer

The green forests and the oceans under a blue sky
Our planet looks so peaceful at a glance
Yet people standing on the same planet kill each other
Cunning acts and wars are so common
There's never a day when the tears dry
Hate makes the sadness multiply
Can you see it from your planet?
Sometimes I want to run away from this foolish planet
When I wonder if I'm walking down the wrong path
I hope you'll laugh and say "It's still a young planet"
If your planet and mine are so different
I want you to ask questions
We know, yet nothing changes
Our ideals haven't come true
Is my S.O.S reaching you?
Where is our planet?

The planet where I live has love, and it has both men and women
It's a beautiful planet, but a sad one where people kill each other

What about the planet where you live?
Can anyone hear me?
S.O.S S.O.S S.O.S Please respond

What's wrong and what's right?
Unable to see the truth, we suffer from a major illness
Every day, somewhere, there are people killing each other
Where is true peace?
We can't seem to live as one
The wars never cease, we can't forgive each other
Is it sad that this is the state of Earth right now?
We're free to feel and think as we please
If I could ask one thing
If I could see the differences or a vision of the future
S.O.S I want to talk about it with you
What is it that we're lacking now?
Already I can't keep up with our ideas
I don't know what to do other than pray
I send another S.O.S and hope it reaches you
Far beyond the sky to your planet

I want to ask, so I'm sending you my voice now
I want to know, so I'm sending you my voice now
Please let it reach... let it reach you

The planet where I live is clear blue, with forests, deserts, seas, and flowing rivers
It's a beautiful planet, but a sad one where people kill each other

The planet where I live has love, and it has both men and women
It's a beautiful planet, but a sad one where people kill each other

What about the planet where you live?
Can anyone hear me?
S.O.S S.O.S S.O.S Please respond

What about the planet where you live?
Can anyone hear me?
S.O.S S.O.S S.O.S Please respond

Ketsumeishi - Ballad

The second of tonight's four Ketsumeishi songs is the typical-ish love song of the bunch (the closest to "typical" that any of these four songs get, at least)... and I'm not really sure what to say about it other than that, so here is Ballad ^^;

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Ballad

RomajiCollapse )

If our tears can never dry
I'll hold you ever tighter
Until we both melt into the night wind
I want to show you my love without words

Let's go back to that dream from the night we parted
Let's dance to our hearts' content
It's too lonely being here alone
I love you so much I can't help myself
Your fragrance still lingers in the room
Making me feel even more lonely since you left
So I'll keep these words hidden away in my heart
"Next time, let's go to your place"

Counting the nights I spend unable to see you
I pour out my love into a glass of sadness
You're the only one I've ever loved this much

If I said "I miss you"
If it's really okay for me to say that
But I'm afraid I'll break down
So like the coward I am, I avert my eyes
The farther apart we are
My feelings spill over more, until they stream out
How many nights must I spend without seeing you
Before these feelings will reach you?

I can see the sleepless town through the glass
On nights like this I miss you most
I draw nearer to the silence again
As I chase after the lingering sweetness of your kiss
That voice echoes, surpassing my memories
Growing smaller and more distant until it dissolves into the night sky
I can't dance to a ballad mixed with sighs
I want to tell you my feelings right now

The two of us close together is better than being all alone
On days when I'm all alone, I'll call you
You look so precious as you watch me leave
With an innocent face, even though I know you're lonely

Counting the nights I spend unable to see you
I pour out my love into a glass of sadness
You're the only one I've ever loved this much

Since I met you
I learned what true sadness is
I miss you so much, it makes me tremble
As I clutch my own shoulders
If I could have embraced your shadow...
Alone and reeling
Next to a phone that won't ring

Counting the nights I spend unable to see you
I pour out my love into a glass of sadness
You're the only one I've ever loved this much
Within my heart even now

Rain falls in the stillness as I hang up
Your "Until next time" echoes over and over, to the ends of the night
I hide my loneliness, saying nothing
Beneath my innocent voice, my heart is aching
I want to see you, but I can't
This feeling will never clear away
Ah, God living beyond the night sky
If this is real love, please turn back time

Ketsumeishi - Future Tracks

Guess what? IT IS DONE :D Yes, today I managed to get all four of the remaining Ketsumeishi tracks finished, leaving only TWO songs left to translate before all the fundraiser requests are complete! (Well, actually three... I keep forgetting the one that I couldn't get lyrics for yet since its release was delayed until April 27...)

Oh, I forgot to mention it after I got home from Tekkoshocon, but I decided to wait until all the requests (except that one I have to wait until April 27 for) are finished before sending in the total donation. I just like the idea of that sense of completion coming from posting up the final request AND making the donation all at the same time. :D *weird* Plus, if I can keep up this streak - three songs in the previous spam and four today - it's entirely possible that this could all happen as soon as tomorrow anyway! ^__^

Anyway, enough babbling - here's the next song from the Ketsumeishi list, Future Tracks!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Future Tracks

RomajiCollapse )

The air that touched my hand
The light I felt on my back
The joy of new meetings
I'm very sensitive to them all

We live in a world that has overcome restrictions
(Someday-isms, always isms, someday)
We're on our way to a world that has overcome fighting
(Someday-isms, always isms)

We won't defy nature
But make it our ally
We'll never fight
But spend our future laughing
Ah... in combination with nature
Ah... a compilation of the future

All the convenient things we've gained
Do we use them, or are we used ourselves? Where is justice?
People insult others because they can't see their faces
Attacks over the internet between the world and one country
But there is a person there
And that warmth will become a great fire
Things go from "nice to have" to "can't live without"
If people give up thinking about it, it will stop

Nature is destroyed yet nobody knows how to fix it
The world watches it through monitors
And we're all hypocrites for just watching
undeniably, we're victims of the future
I want to stay with it, I want to face it
I want to exist with both nature and convenience
Before we lose the things that should come naturally
So the next generation can still smile

The air that touched my hand
The light I felt on my back
The joy of new meetings
I'm very sensitive to them all

We live in a world that has overcome restrictions
(Someday-isms, always isms, someday)
We're on our way to a world that has overcome fighting
(Someday-isms, always isms)

The rise of science has exceeded our understanding
Convenience has eliminated inconvenience
But as we learn what it costs us, it's hard to breathe
Nobody can live without a computer
Is there no answer to give to the future?
We can't live up to those who exist without speech
We can search our hardest, but there's no love to find
A blessing we must not forget

Computers you can open in the middle of the forest
The car navigation you relied on to get this far
Machines put us at ease; is it all over if we try to search?
No, it's only fitting to this age
The egos of people who throw around the word "eco"
Wouldn't it be more "eco" to just not have all that?
The sun? Electric lights? Which one is really "light"?
This is the age we're living in

The air that touched my hand
The light I felt on my back
The joy of new meetings
I'm very sensitive to them all

We live in a world that has overcome restrictions
(Someday-isms, always isms, someday)
We're on our way to a world that has overcome fighting
(Someday-isms, always isms)

We won't defy nature
But make it our ally
We'll never fight
But spend our future laughing
Ah... in combination with nature
Ah... a compilation of the future

People flock to the rush of new ideas
You can sense their conflict with the things they lose
More importantly than which is controlling which
We know that what really matters is warmth

People flock to the rush of new ideas
You can sense their conflict with the things they lose
More importantly than which is controlling which
We know that what really matters is warmth

We who have been searching all this time are computers being controlled
We who have been searching all this time are computers being controlled
We who have been searching all this time are computers being controlled

Ketsumeishi - Tatakae! Salaryman

The trend continues... :P In somewhat of a fitting continuation from Lingerie Pub (in more ways than one) comes another very unique, culture-specific story-telling track of insanity - Tatakae! Salaryman. And can I just say, hearing a song like this sung from the perspective of a tired middle-aged salaryman in the style of rap is its own little brand of culture shock. XD

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Tatakae! Salaryman (Fight! Salaryman)

RomajiCollapse )

Go for it, me! (HEY!) [1]
Wash down the exhaustion with alcohol (HEY!)
Dare to say "We're the ones holding the company up!"
We are Japanese salarymen

Go for it, me! (HEY!)
Laugh at the absurdity and gulp down some more (HEY!)
Someone say "We're the ones keeping society going!"
We are Japanese salarymen

Wave your hot towel, wave wave wave wave wave!
Wave your necktie around!
Gonna have a hangover and a burned throat (Fine with me!!)
Until the sun comes up~~

Wave your hot towel, wave wave wave wave wave!
Wave your necktie around!
Gonna have a hangover and a burned throat (Fine with me!!)
We're gonna watch the sunrise~~

Do your best, you've gotta do it
'Cause you're the salaryman representing Japan
"Yeah yeah yeah" "I'm gonna do it!" "I can do it!" "With pleasure"
This world has its own typical final answer
If you're not gonna do it, don't tell me "do it!"
I don't wanna be the boss that everyone hates
If you're in reporting, contacting, and consulting, do it right
I'm gonna meet my quota exactly
Somehow managed to pull it off again
It's my own fault, I'm wringing my own neck...
I wanna break out of society and run around outside its boundaries
The receptionist at that company is really cute
I can't keep this up if nothing good ever happens
'Cause there's nothing waiting for me at the wife's house
Cabaret club once a month, resting my head on a girl's lap
This is the one thing a lowly employee like me can look forward to
I'll wash down today's exhaustion with alcohol
The salarymen representing Japan will fight again tomorrow

Go for it, me! (HEY!)

Dripping sweat for my company
Wearing my soles thin for my family
Forced every day into harsher work than I could imagine
Going around in circles with a paycheck that never rises
Every day I have less and less spending money
The meager drinking money I've built up little by little
That one little glass is my one and only pleasure
These covert meetings give me peace of mind until the last train leaves
A little tipsy and swaying on the train
My spirits are high as I return home
Stuff like "Loser" and "You stink" and "Shut up"
Those words don't apply to drunks now
I can't say it, I have no excuses
But it's not like I want to settle for this
Once again tomorrow, we'll fight for society's sake
The corporate warriors - the salarymen

We are the corporate warriors, salarymen!!

Go for it, me! (HEY!)

"Which is more important, family or work?"
It's my family I'm fighting for every day
Monday through Friday, working even on holidays
I start in the morning, and before I know it, it's midnight
Putting up with cliques, transfers, power harassment, layoffs, and deception
No matter what happens or what I know, I'm just a yes-man
As if I could tell the truth!
To end it all, one of my cute colleagues ran off with the chief
Who turned our society into this?
Is it sad that I've started to get a little used to it?
I'd love to take a beautiful secretary with me and relocate somewhere
Have French cuisine for lunch on a helicopter, be the man of the moment
I can't fight 24 hours a day!!
I don't know if it's age or exhaustion, but I can't get it up in the morning anymore!! [2]
Such are my grumblings about life as I bitterly drink
Through today when I can't laugh, and tomorrow too, I've gotta hang in there!!!!

Right now I'd love to throw everything aside
Find a cute cabaret girl or something
And run off with her
My face is laughing, but in my heart I'm crying
It's all for my company, throughout these dazzling seasons

Go for it, me! (HEY!)

[1] Where it says "Ganbare ore" in the chorus here, the "ore" is written in katakana, so between that and the mood of the song it could have two meanings: the male first-person pronoun "ore," or of course, "Olé." Your guess is as good as mine!

[2] ...Yes, that's what it says. And yes, that's what it means. I'm sorry. >__>...

Ketsumeishi - Lingerie Pub

Yeah, THIS is where things start to get... interesting. >_>;; Wow, this song. Gotta give Ketsumeishi credit for their ability to tell such vivid stories in their lyrics, though. These guys seriously have a way with words... even if they're trying to break my brain with modern young people language and slang that's really obscure and hard to look up. >>

I like this, though. I get to learn! XD

So here is another one of those crazy unique Ketsumeishi samplings, Lingerie Pub...

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Lingerie Pub

RomajiCollapse )

Unbelievable
I never thought my reunion with you would be in a
Lingerie pub
What are you doing here? My mind is going blank

After working overtime every day
Finally a day came when I could go home early
And I got a sudden invitation from my boss that I couldn't refuse
But I didn't forget about you
I tried to email you, but you didn't respond
I was a little depressed

All the customers tonight are old, bald, perverted company presidents
One bar, two bars, I know it won't end at "just a little tipsy"
With a smirk you wouldn't believe, he asks "Where to next? Know any good spots?"
So someone says "Wanna give that nightlife district a shot?"
One doorman along the street calls out, and the old man, bewitched by cute young girls
Happily declares "This is the place!"
It's packed inside, and garter belts are making a full comeback
E-cups about to spill out, thongs on round behinds
Without thought I glance over two or three seats, where some old pervert
Is shining a penlight directly on one girl's parts
If I was a girl I'd be saying "Will you lay off?!"
Even if it's your job, isn't that horrible?
I'm sure on the inside, they hate it
Then as I was watching, that face looked somehow familiar
More than familiar - it was my girlfriend
"What!? Oh, shit! Isn't that your boyfriend?"
Our eyes met and... what!? No mistake - it IS you!
I want it to be a mistake
Didn't you tell me you were going to a drinking party today?
I don't want to watch you doing stuff like this
Just then, an accident - your left breast spilled out!
And for some reason a tear also spilled from my eye
It's a sad night of "I'm blind drunk" and "A garter belt for you"
I'm going home! And where will you be going home to?

Unbelievable
I never thought my reunion with you would be in a
Lingerie pub
What are you doing here? My mind is going blank

"What!? Oh, shit! Isn't that your boyfriend?"
In all the darkness, did he see me? He did, didn't he!?
Why did he come here? Why is he here??
Look at the perverted eyes he's making at the girl next to him!!
Huh? Uh oh... he saw me!! He won't stop calling!! Gotta ignore it
I force myself to stroke the thigh of the geezer next to me
"Sir, please put the penlight down for now"
Why would you shine it there?! Woah! Now he won't stop emailing me!
I can't say anything to him looking like this
I don't even wear this kind of underwear normally
Maybe I'll try a disguise - draw on a mole and stick out my chin
Hide in the back, make a second entrance, and play dumb!?
Anything I do now would be too late
And at a time like this, my left breast pops out
Damn it... someone please just serve him now
No, I just want to go home... Bring this geezer his bill, please!!

Unbelievable
I never thought my reunion with you would be in a
Lingerie pub
What are you doing here? My mind is going blank

Ketsumeishi - Kimi to Boku no Kisetsu

Three more done! Yay :D So I spent the majority of my downtime yesterday romanizing the remaining songs from the Ketsumeishi album, and yeah... back a couple of posts ago when I said Riddim Driver was the most challenging one yet but I was optimistic about the rest? Let's just say I shouldn't count my eggs before they explode. XD;;

This one was not one of the crazy ones, though... so enjoy Kimi to Boku no Kisetsu ^^

Ketsumeishi - Kimi to Boku no Kisetsu (Our season)

RomajiCollapse )

The autumn sunset and winter snow somehow make me more honest
I'm so sorry, just so sorry
That I couldn't tell you honestly all the time

There's something I want to tell you now
Sorry for always just talking nonsense and worrying you
You always just laugh it off with a surprised face
But I've noticed that lonely face you show sometimes

The spring fragrance and summer stars somehow make me love you more
I love you, I've always loved you
Sorry I couldn't tell you honestly

Spring, summer, autumn, winter - the seasons turn
In the same way my feelings also change unseen
Love-hate turns into hate-love
That's why I can't draw any kind of blueprint for the future
I just put all my trust in you
With no concern for all the worry I caused you by making you wait
You just laugh at me and shrug it off
Making it even harder for me to say "I'm sorry"
When you're around I'm nothing but selfish
Yet still you're always so kind
But I've noticed the lonely face you make
It makes you want to cry, doesn't it?
I'm an underhanded jerk with no hope of salvation, aren't I?
Even I get sick of myself, to tell you the truth
If I didn't have you, I might as well be alone
Right now you're more precious to me than anyone

The spring fragrance and summer stars somehow make me love you more
I love you, I've always loved you
Sorry I couldn't tell you honestly

As autumn turns to winter
I'm off somewhere searching for my true self
Words pile heavily on each other and tangle together
Before I know it, winter is turning to spring
Every time I think about it, it never works out right
I just can't say that one little word, "sorry"
I just keep causing you trouble and nothing changes
After I run from you again, spring turns to summer
Since when is it such a hard thing to say?
When did I become such a clumsy adult?
You just forgive my stupid selfishness and I entrust everything to the moment
Once again I rely too much on your smile
The seasons turn from summer to fall
It's still warm next to you
I still can't put my feelings into words
Sorry I can't be more honest with you

The autumn sunset and winter snow somehow make me more honest
I'm so sorry, just so sorry
That I couldn't tell you honestly all the time

Ketsumeishi - Sakebi

The second Ketsumeishi track I managed to finish up today went back to the more straightforward (kinda) trend shared by the first few tracks on the album (unlike the craziness of Riddim Driver, holy eff) - and it is Sakebi ^^ Enjoy!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Sakebi (Shout)

RomajiCollapse )

I know it would be easier to just fall down
But you can't do that
Search for the light hidden in the darkness

I'm gonna shout, gonna raise my voice
Wave my fist and risk my life
To know more about this big world
I won't back down, I'll keep fighting until the day I die
If I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right
I'll be number one
If you're gonna laugh so easily at someone's dream
At least live through your own present first

I'm gonna shout, gonna raise my voice
Throw out a yell right from the soul
"So stupid..." "You're going nowhere..."
Noisy jerks in the outfield looking for things to complain about
Makes me wanna ask, "Then what about you?"
If this is the fight of my life, I won't step down
I have pride that I won't give up for anyone
That's why I'm standing here with confidence

A dream is never over until you give up
Once I start running, I won't stop for just anything
I can't go back to the past, but the tears and sweat I shed
Will let me be reborn tomorrow
Na Na Na I'll make a road where there was none [1]
Da Da Da I'll take the first step no matter what
I won't lose, it's not over yet
Let the voice of your heart ring out - Shout!

If I should do something to get it out of the way
Then you get it done first
Today's 10 is more important than tomorrow's 100
Just look one step ahead
Things you might think are pointless
To me they're a mountain of treasure
Admit how stupid you can be
And look at the scenery you can see from there

Get rid of your assumptions, get a grip on your ideas
Get rid of your assumptions, get a grip on your ideas
Get rid of your assumptions, get a grip on your ideas
Get rid of your assumptions, get a grip on your ideas

Read the mood, just read the mood
You just pretend to read the mood and don't say anything
You can only talk about today, today
Tomorrow there'll be guys who want to talk about tomorrow
Things people ask, things about work
Things you want to say to all of Japan
It doesn't matter what it is, just say it
Throw everything you've got into it
If all you've got to show for it is the idea
That everything will work out if you keep quiet
Then I don't have the time to waste on you
So just hurry up and get out of here
Things said out of place, and things that were just said wrong
Will still have meaning just up ahead, I'm sure
So don't keep quiet - shout right now!

Get rid of your assumptions, get a grip on your ideas
Get rid of your assumptions, get a grip on your ideas

With love in my heart and darkness behind me
Why were we born only to one day disappear?
Be frank, be impulsive
Shout just like your instincts tell you!
Shout out your soul!
Shout!

There are times in life when you struggle and struggle but it just doesn't work out
You grumble and grumble, but if it doesn't work out, there's still the next path
There are times in life when you struggle and struggle but it just doesn't work out
I'll break it down, break it down, and then I'll sing as I please

[1] This didn't really work in the translation... but where it says "Na Na Na" and "Da Da Da" in these two lines, they're not just random sounds. If you check out the romaji you can see that "na" and "da" were actually the first sounds in each respective line, so it has kind of an echo effect in the original Japanese. Not a really important difference, but I wanted to point it out anyway...

Ketsumeishi - Riddim Driver

So... this song turned out to be the biggest challenge on the requested Ketsumeishi album so far (I'm only halfway through it, but I'm optimistic XD). The first thing I learned from this one is what a "riddim" is. Which then led to a mini-education on the nature of reggae music composition, particularly dancehall reggae. See, a "riddim" is the instrumental accompaniment in a reggae song... but unlike the accompaniments in other musical styles, popular riddims are often reused in other reggae songs that come after. Kinda like sampling, but bigger, or something. So from this song you can (hopefully) kinda get the image of a reggae DJ in some kind of club ad-libbing some new lyrics on top of whatever riddim is playing while people are going nuts dancing throughout the club. Pardon my expert reggae jargon or lack thereof. *cough*

So yeah, I hope it all makes sense as you read the translation. Here is Riddim Driver by Ketsumeishi...

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Riddim Driver

RomajiCollapse )

Riddim driver takes off
Riding on the sound, no ends, no limits
Just like driving on the midnight circuit or the highway
So proud of your speed, let's see what you've got
Spitting out words even as I'm riding the rhythm
I'm gonna take off outta here with you dancing
That's why I like a little repeat on the beat
Just watch, I'm gonna be a hero
The meanings, sensibilities, resonances of the syllabary [1]
It really is a science
I'm gonna blaze through the a-ka-sa-ta-na again today
A naughty kid breaking the rules of speed
I'm gonna keep on flying, as far as I can
No one can keep up with me
Tonight I'm gonna ride it out, make a rhythm with my sound
We'll find out who will become the brightest star

I'll surpass the night and break out of the darkness, no matter how far
Riddim driver running beneath the moonlight
I'll color the night and fly with the wind, no matter where
Riddim driver leaving the glow of the city behind

I'll bust out of the everyday routine that binds me
Get out of this city in the night and hit the highway
Kick it up high to full speed
Keep on with the beat I love that's so easy to ride on
I'll ride it all the way from "a" to "n" [2]
Every now and then I'll be the demon using vowels to step on your asses [3]
Slam down the accel, slam down the rhymes
Stack words together and give them meaning
I won't let you pass me!
I won't let you get in front of me!
I gotta be in the lead
If you're not interested, then hitchhike
Mic check, mic check, license
I don't have one, but I've got the ever-important high sense
I gotta hurry on ahead, so it's time to say byebye
Tonight I'm gonna hijack the highway

I won't let you pass me, baby
I'll stand in front of everyone on this night highway
Set my words loose on the runway, the riddim
Only I am my own driver
Come with me, baby
We'll tear the darkness apart on this night highway
Let your heart dance on the runway, the riddim
Only you are your own driver

Gonna start out with my finger on the B-dash button
With the beats repeating at max speed
Then I'll show you what I've got
My words have their own engine and braking
With techniques like a mechanic, One Two
My words take off to pierce straight through your brain
So I can stand in the lead
I'll claim an easy victory by using the brake as little as possible
Through the night... well now, just hear you talk
Then let's compare our machines' abilities
On ready, set (and go)
I won't lose to guys who just want to look flashy driving
From the in and out I make my rhymes and hit the street again
Adjust the focus for some hints to the rhymes I'm packing in
Break out of the dead heat to take the lead
I'm gonna delete all the weak hardcore
Come with me, you elites with burning hearts

I'll surpass the night and break out of the darkness, no matter how far
Riddim driver running beneath the moonlight
I'll color the night and fly with the wind, no matter where
Riddim driver leaving the glow of the city behind

[1] Referring, of course, to the Japanese syllabary - a i u e o, ka ki ku ke ko, and all the other syllabic components used to form words. The "a-ka-sa-ta-na" thing a couple lines later also refers to this, as it expresses the order in which sounds are listed on the syllabary from right to left (a-ka-sa-ta-na-ha-ma-ya-ra-wa-n). I'm pretty sure he's basically talking about the process of writing lyrics/rhymes/etc.

[2] Back to the syllabary again; see previous note about the order in which they're read from right to left.

[3] ...I don't even know. I just translated "ketsu fumu" directly. My guess is something like, when you've just kicked someone down from behind and then kinda rest your foot on their butt and pose like the king of the mountain or whatever? *hides*

Ketsumeishi - Nagareboshi

Yay, I managed to get one finished today ^^;; Got a little romaji done for the next few tracks in line as well, so hopefully we shall soon be back on track...

So, in a continuation of the Ketsumeishi album I was working on translating and posting for the fundraiser before my Tekkoshocon excursion, here is Nagareboshi ^^ Enjoy!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Nagareboshi (Shooting star)

RomajiCollapse )

Raised under this beautiful starry sky
Even if my heart wavers
I'll join that shooting star
And become a brilliantly shining star myself

One more time, I'll make my dream into my ally
One more time, I'll make my wish into my strength
One more time, I'll bet it all on what I believe in
Just one more time...
Never again forget the stars we saw shining on that day
Never forget the feelings we promised under that sky
For the sake of tomorrow

At some point I realized that I was only paying attention to where I stepped
Following the lines drawn by society, my eyes cast down
Facing downward as I walked home
Ready to give up every day
The more I rushed, the more my dreams faded
The more I hurried, the more my dreams crumbled
Then the rain stopped, and suddenly I saw
The scenery and street lights reflected in a puddle
Overlapping with the starry sky I saw so long ago, and I remembered that day
Vowing to the night sky, I put my hands together
Looked up at the sky, and wished hard
That my feelings might reach those stars again
I promise one more time as I gaze at that sky

One more time, I'll make my dream into my ally
One more time, I'll make my wish into my strength
One more time, I'll bet it all on what I believe in
Just one more time...
Never again forget the stars we saw shining on that day
Never forget the feelings we promised under that sky
For the sake of tomorrow

The starry sky I saw back then
Might be farther away than I realized now
Troubled, swallowed, oppressed by society
Eventually I couldn't see the answer anymore
I can do anything, I can be anything
That's what I thought, but eventually my spirit wilted
On the way home from work I sat on a swing in the park
And asked myself, am I just going to rot away like this?
I can't say out loud the things I once said I'd do
I can no longer see the things I saw back then
Not because they're not visible, but because I'm not looking
On that day, I took strength from that shooting star
It's not too late, it's only just begun
I haven't rotted away yet
I know I can go back to those days when I had dreams
I'll swear once again to those stars

The things I wanted to do after I became an adult
The sense of purpose, the things I wanted to become
The days when we talked about dreams and ideals
The road we took back home, looking up at the stars all the way
Now it's all replaced by this narrow city sky
The stars I memorized back then are gone, I'm under a dark sky
For three years nothing went as I planned
I was dragged along, tossed around, pounded on
With very few things I could believe in and and unable to see tomorrow
I know I can't see a shooting star now
But I'll gather up the small lights
Turn this wish into my dream again, and whisper three times
I know this is only the beginning
This time I'll be the one to start changing
Someday I'll become a star that can make wishes come true
The brightest shining star in the sky

Are wishes things that will come true before you know it?
Is giving up something that happens more and more before you know it?
When I asked the night sky, I saw a single shooting star
And I at least realized that I can't go on like this

One more time, I'll make my dream into my ally
One more time, I'll make my wish into my strength
One more time, I'll bet it all on what I believe in
Just one more time...
Never again forget the stars we saw shining on that day
Never forget the feelings we promised under that sky
For the sake of tomorrow

Ketsumeishi - Kimi to Tsukuru Mirai

And the second Ketsumeishi offering for today is Kimi to Tsukuru Mirai ^^ Wonder if I'll be able to finish any more tomorrow amidst the packing and preparation... at least I've got the next few romanized already, that's a start! lol

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Kimi to Tsukuru Mirai (The future I'll make with you)

RomajiCollapse )

Everything that will lead me to my future now
Is the reason I met you, my most precious one
Hand in hand
We've had our clashes at times, but
I'm excited to see the future I'll make with you
To the future

Thank you for meeting me
Thank you for choosing me
Since I met you, even now
Somehow I'm still a little uneasy
The colors of flying birds, the many colors of every day
When I'm with you, it's so strange
Even in the most ordinary happiness
There's a future that I can only make with you
I've met you and your future
I'm glad I could

Everything that will lead me to my future now
Is the reason I met you, my most precious one
Hand in hand
We've had our clashes at times, but
I'm excited to see the future I'll make with you
To the future

As I stand here now
The light and the breeze that I feel are there
And I know that is what brings me to life
My days with you are always fulfilling
These days of uneventful happiness
And the reason they'll continue long into the future
How important is it? That alone is important
There's nothing else I would wish for
If the present changes, the future will change too
The world spins faster than we realize
What is the reason we're standing here?
There's something only you can do, isn't there?
Today, tomorrow, and the next day, we'll create the future
Reflecting the route we took to get here
That's why I want to treasure the present
What I want to see is the future you'll create

Everything that will lead me to my future now
Is the reason I met you, my most precious one
Hand in hand
We've had our clashes at times, but
I'm excited to see the future I'll make with you

Something joined us together
And one small meeting on this earth was born
Amidst the days I spent with you
Light started to shine in the shape of a dream
A future that only we can make
And that only we can get to
Here and now, I'll search with you
And find all the reasons we met
In the times we spend together just like always
My future with you spreads out before my eyes
This warm happiness that seems so obvious
Makes our days shine
I find more and more things I want to protect
Things I want to see, and dreams, start to overflow
Our meeting is the beginning of everything
Let's move forward to our future

The things around us that we don't even think about
Now they seem so unbelievable
Fighting for nothing; if it's all going to be destroyed, there's no point
As I think about it, my standing with you here now is a mystery
All the things, even my heart, that I was already losing
Awareness that I must not lose
I devote all my strength to seeing everyone smile
That strength, in one person, will create the future

Everything that will lead me to my future now
Is the reason I met you, my most precious one
Hand in hand
We've had our clashes at times, but
The future I'll make with you is...

Everything that will lead me to my future now
Is the reason I met you, my most precious one
Hand in hand
We've had our clashes at times, but
I'm excited to see the future I'll make with you
To the future

Ketsumeishi - Genjitsu wa Senjou

Got a couple more songs from the requested Ketsumeishi album finished today :D First up for the night is Genjitsu wa Senjou! Enjoy~

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. It's over now, but you can check out this post to see what we did and how it went!

Ketsumeishi - Genjitsu wa Senjou (Reality is a battlefield)

RomajiCollapse )

We're all fighting
Even if we're stupid, even if we're weak
We all know
That's where our days of happiness will start

We don't even know how to climb the stairs to adulthood
Putting up fences with words and an origami knife
What's really important?
Whose example should we follow?
Is this even the right moment?
We still don't know today

The intersection is full of people
Everyone is in such a hurry; what makes them that way?
People passing each other by, coming and going
I'll never see any of them again
All I can say now is that "everyone is fighting"
They're all involved in their own battles
What is important? What is right?
Nobody knows where they're aiming for
They have no real weapons or guarantees
But they have no choice but to move forward
If we just keep on fighting every day
There's no way we'll stay weak forever
Raise your flag, let the flowers bloom
We're gonna show you who we really are
Let's dare to keep moving over this asphalt
Open your eyes and move forward little by little

By fighting every day on this asphalt
We'll keep growing stronger
Crawling on our hands and knees, gritting our teeth
Even if it's a little at a time, we'll keep moving forward

As we raise our flag on this asphalt
We'll learn just how weak we are
Turned away by people, helped by people
Even if it's one step at a time, we'll keep moving forward

Life is a battlefield, definitely a battle
The bell of victory isn't ringing yet
I can't see what's ahead, nothing will change unless I go there
Even if all I have is a broken knife, I won't let it go
Let your will show and jump into the fight yourself
Even if the door is closed, keep pounding on it
If you give up, it's all over
If you lose, you can get up and move forward again
Take sustenance from the pain and injuries you receive
Make weakness your weapon and strength your shield
Keep struggling, keep struggling, break it down, and even if it gets away, stand up
On this asphalt again, on your own legs
Even if ideals and hopes are drowned by reality
We're gonna light the flame of our tomorrow
Even if we're still weak, we'll attack with these feelings
And for now, we'll just keep running

By fighting every day on this asphalt
We'll keep growing stronger
Crawling on our hands and knees, gritting our teeth
Even if it's a little at a time, we'll keep moving forward

As we raise our flag on this asphalt
We'll learn just how weak we are
Turned away by people, helped by people
Even if it's one step at a time, we'll keep moving forward

Recklessly waving our swords at a tomorrow we can't see
Is it a bad thing to believe the things left behind are our reality and our future?
Is it?

We're all fighting
Even if we're stupid, even if we're weak
We all know
That's where our days of happiness will start

Fundraiser complete!

The Taiji Project fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan is now over! Thank you so much to all who requested, all who donated without requesting, and all who offered your support and encouragement!

The total we managed to get together to help Japan's disaster victims was $504.54. Not bad at all :D

I made the donation on the same day that I completed and posted the final song request (excluding the one that wasn't released yet and I had to wait for the kanji lyrics before fulfilling) - Saturday, April 16 - and below is a screenshot of the email receipt I received (click to enlarge):

Yes, the donation amount says $500, and the total donated to the fundraiser was $504.54. This is because I forgot that there's a $500 daily cap on the card I used to make the payment. *headdesk* But you guys know I'm good for that last $4.54, right? lol... Yes, I will indeed make a second donation with the rest, plus a little extra to constitute my own donation, as soon as that cap is reset and my card lets me pay again. I'll post that screencap here somewhere too if anyone asks me to.

Here's a list of the songs that were requested as part of the fundraiser:

As you can see, a rather large collective request came in just as the fundraiser was wrapping up. XD I'll get as much done on those as I can before I leave (I have the next 5 romanized so far), and resume working on them as soon as I get home and awaken from my con coma until everything's finished.

Many thanks once again to everyone who helped out, whether through donations or in spirit! Keep Japan in your prayers as they've got a long road to recovery ahead - and have faith that whether you send money or just love and prayers, it will reach them and keep them strong ♥

Ketsumeishi - Ofutari Summer

And here's the third and last Ketsumeishi track I'll post for today - Ofutari Summer! I translated the title as "Summer for Two" mainly because... well, "ofutari" means two people... but it might also be a bit of wordplay on "ofutari-sama," which adds an honorific suffix that sounds a lot like "summer" in Japanese. If that's the case, "ofutari-sama" is a polite way of saying "for two" (for example, a waiter offering a table for two at a restaurant). I hope all that makes sense, lol.

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Ketsumeishi - Ofutari Summer

RomajiCollapse )

Sea birds drift lightly on the breeze
The summer sun shines bright in these summer days
The beach is so quiet, the day so peaceful,
Even surfers grow tired of waiting for waves
I see bikini girls on the beach from the corner of my eye as I hit the gas
We're heading for the end of the peninsula, further up ahead
I'm taking you with me again today

That summer love we had is still the magic of love that connects us
Leaning close together as we drive, let's head for that beach
The day we both became a little bit more grown-up than we were before was our summer

Every time this season comes we say "Let's go again!"
Let's keep saying that no matter how old we get
The day when you had so much fun on the street alongside the beach
Will never fade, even though we've come here so many times
The view is amazing as I hit the gas
This summery scenery won't ever fade away
The landscape changes as the wind flows through
That song is playing on the car stereo
How many times have we seen this scenery now?
The two of us swim along the coastline
I miss having lots of our friends at the beach
But I want this summer to be just for the two of us
Looking down from above, a summer day at the shore
How many people will I meet, and how many will leave, this summer?
It will be the stage of many new memories
The setting sun colors us in this summer for just the two of us

That summer love we had is still the magic of love that connects us
Leaning close together as we drive, let's head for that beach
The day we both became a little bit more grown-up than we were before was our summer

I'll entrust everything to the heat and take you with me
To gaze up at that sky and escape this town
You're a little more grown-up this year
The wind I feel and those waves bring back memories
The beach is crowded, so I'll put off surfing for later
I'll take off running and stretch out my legs a little further ahead
To that place where a miracle was born
The only place that knows of our meeting
The sea breeze brings memories of summer
The radiant sunlight tells of summer's arrival
I wanna relax surrounded by the sound of the waves
I wanna look out at the sea with you
And come back here many, many times
These feelings toward you won't change
I'll gather up the memories we left along the water's edge
And take off running toward that summer for just the two of us

The you and me from that day are waving at me from between the waves
That summer is revived (together with you, hand in hand again)
Repeated "Love you"s (over and over again)
Another summer to add to all the ones we've spent together
(Let's dash through a summer for just the two of us)
The memories we make will overlap within us

That summer love we had is still the magic of love that connects us
Leaning close together as we drive, let's head for that beach
The day we both became a little bit more grown-up than we were before was our summer

As we pass through the tunnel, the sea is calling
The ocean horizon stretches on forever
Our joined hands transcend the seasons
And the next summer will come our way again
Carrying our memories, the sound of the waves calls to us
You look up to the sky as the wind blows through
And start to sing it all out to the scenery passing by
We can go as far as we like in this summer for just the two of us

Ketsumeishi - Deai wa Seichou no Tane

And now for the first track from the actual Ketsumeishi album that was requested within the fundraiser - Deai wa Seichou no Tane ^^ Just from translating these first couple songs I learned that these guys seem to put out some fairly straightforward lyrics with simple, easy-to-understand concepts... which is a helpful counterbalance to the sheer length of each song. XD;

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Ketsumeishi - Deai wa Seichou no Tane (New meetings are the seeds of growth)

RomajiCollapse )

Now that I think about it, in all the time I've lived
How many people have I met?
Were they all the kind of meetings I wished for?
I guess they weren't all good guys
Now that I think about it, in all the time I've lived
How many people have I met?
Were they all the kind of meetings I had imagined?
I guess they weren't all bad guys

Friends at school, my part-time boss
Irritating superiors, that girl I dated
My friends taught me how to help each other
I'll never forget my first part-time job
A boss I couldn't stand taught me how to endure
I can't thank them enough
The days I spent with her were filled with nothing but love
My own child taught me what a blessing parents are
Since my child was born
I don't get mad over trivial things anymore
Lots of people got together there
When we got to talking, they were actually pretty passionate
In all my life up to now, and from now on
The people I meet will change me
And of course, the next person I meet
Will surely allow me to grow too

Now that I think about it, in all the time I've lived
How many people have I met?
Were they all the kind of meetings I wished for?
I guess they weren't all good guys
Now that I think about it, in all the time I've lived
How many people have I met?
Were they all the kind of meetings I had imagined?
I guess they weren't all bad guys

My buddies back home, my bandmates
Stubborn teachers, that girl I dated
My dreams taught me how to be competitive
I'll never forget my first fight
I broke out of the house and we talked all night long
I wonder if each of our dreams ever came true?
The guy who hung around in the coffee shop all the time
That wordless smile always made me feel so at ease
As I started forward toward my dream
I became reckless, unable to see anything around me
Soon I realized there was nobody there
But that's when I met some friends of the same type as me
As I go on recklessly living my life
I guess I'll meet more and more friends
And of course, the next person I meet
Will surely allow me to grow too

Now that I think about it, in all the time I've lived
How many people have I met?
Were they all the kind of meetings I wished for?
I guess they weren't all good guys
Now that I think about it, in all the time I've lived
How many people have I met?
Were they all the kind of meetings I had imagined?
I guess they weren't all bad guys

Friends at school, my part-time boss
Nice superiors, that girl I dated
My memories of my teachers will never fade
I'll never forget those words that still live now
Silly stories are way, far in the past
Even in the weakest school clubs, I always lost
But in the dream we saw together, I could laugh through my tears
Still dependent even after I grew up
My annoying boss took care of me
Eventually our group of musicians came together
It became our job, we were so passionate
As I go on living my life, I'll learn how inexperienced I am
The people I meet will change me
And of course, the next person I meet
Will surely allow me to grow too

I met you (I met you) [1]
I learned from you (I learned from you)
From you I (From you I)
Gained so much, grew up, and became who I am now

[1] I split the lines in this verse just to differentiate between "kimi" and "anata," as both mean "you," but are used in different contexts ("kimi" is more casual and familiar, "anata" is more general and can be formal). There's a different vocalist for the "anata" parts than the "kimi" parts, so I figured there had to be some intended difference in the implied context. Wow, this is hard to explain. >>;; Just, yeah... point being that I used parentheses to distinguish the "kimi" lines from the otherwise identical "anata" lines, since there's not really a way to differentiate those two forms of "you" in English. *shuts up before I make even less sense*

Ketsumeishi - My Girl

Now THIS is what I was hoping for when I started this fundraiser - 15 requests in one day! XD *doM*

Haha, actually, these 15 all came in the form of one very generous collective request for a whole album, the latest by Ketsumeishi. Except for one track, which was replaced in the request with another song that the same group released a bit before this album. And so, that song is the one I'll start this requested Ketsumeishi spam with :D Without further ado, here is My Girl!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Ketsumeishi - My Girl

RomajiCollapse )

I had a dream that we were standing side by side wearing white outfits
My dreams tend to come true pretty often, you know - don't worry
Just trust me

(You are my girl)

They say there's nothing in this world
That's not a waste of time, but
I love the wasted times I spend with you
Like when we laughed so hard at some silly story
Someone blew their car horn at us
You looked so precious when you laughed even more at my surprised reaction
Even meaningless days like that,
Since I have someone precious like you to share it with,
Are my happiness
The two of us will continue on together

(You are my girl)
In good times and bad times
Since you alone were always by my side
(You are my girl)
In good times and bad times
I alone will always be by your side

Time passes by unnoticed
When I'm with you I can smile naturally
Same with the song I suddenly found myself singing
Once I realized it, you were always beside me
Eventually you turned from one special person into someone all my own
You're more precious to me the more I know you
Since we met that day, we've been to so many places
You were so ladylike... where did you go then?
The day you left, rain was pouring down
I was so stunned I couldn't do anything; I didn't chase after you, just waited
When you came back, I just held you and held you
What on earth did I to do you?
So I won't let you go again, baby
We'll always stay like this, together forever
Stay by my side longer, oh my girl
Let's walk together all our lives

(You are my girl)
In good times and bad times
Since you alone were always by my side
(You are my girl)
In good times and bad times
I alone will always be by your side

We have different tastes in clothes, you don't go to clubs
You don't know anything about reggae or hip-hop
But no matter what I talked about, you always listened
You came with me to stores I never thought would suit you
You treasured our times together
You even came to see me during breaks from work
You were so simple and clueless about the world
But I loved your innocence
Sometimes I bothered you
Or needlessly made you endure too much
But still you believed in me at all times
And in the end, you were the one waiting for me
"Your dream is my dream"
I want to respond to those words someday
I'll make you happy no matter what
I'll become a man you can be proud of

I am what I am
But you're the only one so precious to me
If words aren't enough
Then I'll hold you tight
Our love is still young
But I'll swear my love to you,
And only you, to the whole world now
I'll take your hand and start to walk

Since the day we met, we kept seeing each other
Started to love each other, the flowers bloomed right beside us
At some point we were drawn to each other and fell in love
Joined hands, and found love
We'll both feel the love you always gave me, right beside me
I want to stay beside you forever
I want to cherish your love
Together with you, together forever

(You are my girl)
In good times and bad times
Since you alone were always by my side
(You are my girl)
In good times and bad times
I alone will always be by your side
(You are my girl)

Oku Hanako - Kawaranai Mono

Another fundraiser request fulfilled at 4:30 in the morning because insomnia is my bestie! This one took a little bit longer because it came from the anime movie Toki o Kakeru Shoujo, which I decided to watch before translating the song so I could get a feel for the story I was working with. Been wanting to see the movie anyway, so everyone's happy. :D

So here it is - Kawaranai Mono by Oku Hanako! Enjoy~

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Oku Hanako - Kawaranai Mono (Something that will never change)

RomajiCollapse )

We were just playing around on the walk home
I made you angry for no reason
I just wanted to see all your different expressions

Your big eyes, your voice as you were about to cry
Even now they have a tight hold on my heart
I ran after you in the passing crowd

I was searching for something that would never change
I'll never forget you on that day
These feelings transcend time
I want to see you right now

I let my feelings hang from the street lights
But I could never just give them to you
The night has left us far behind

Your voice as you lied from your unseen heart
Still echoes within my heart even now
As we wandered throughout time, we fell in love

I was searching for something that would never change
The unfamiliar place we found that day
If you and I can go there again
I can be reborn as many times as it takes

I was embracing something that had no shape
Never even hearing the sound of it breaking
Even now the light still shines
On the same road you and I walked on together

I was searching for something that would never change
I'll never forget you on that day
These feelings transcend time
I want to see you right now

I want to see you right now

Arashi (Ninomiya Kazunari) - 1992*4##111

I wondered how long it would take for an Arashi song to be requested. :B And the first one to get the honor is Nino's solo from Boku no Miteiru Fuukei, which.... has a coded title. It's called 1992*4##111. So what's the code? Apparently this is the sequence of keys you use to type "arigatou (thank you)" on a Japanese mobile phone. That's our clever little geek boy. :P (actually I don't even know if he wrote this song/concept or not, lol... feel free to correct me!)

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Arashi (Ninomiya Kazunari) - 1992*4#111

RomajiCollapse )

It's too embarrassing to say,
So I decided to send it to you in code. That's what I'll do.
Your hint is... let's see.
It's not some cool-sounding phrase like "I love you."

It's strange, though...
It says the same thing to both people you like and people you hate
It just might be
The one and only magic word we still have left...

That's probably it. I'm sure that's it.
It's something that exists right in front of our faces.
That's why I decided to make it "special (coded)."
Secretly, so nobody can figure it out...
And you can think about what it means just to you.

You look so cute,
Not able to figure out and getting so determined.
Your hint is... let's see.
It might go together a lot with words like "I'm sorry."

Little kids and their parents too,
It's a magic word that everyone uses.
If I were to have a kid of my own,
Without a doubt, this would be the first thing I'd teach him...

That's probably it. I'm sure that's it.
There's no such thing as eternity.
We can love the here and now with all our might.
So tomorrow, the day after, and beyond that...
I think I'll be able to say it. Straight up, without being embarrassed...

If... just "if,"
It's not that big a deal, but
If I could choose the last words to say in my life
I'd be saying "this (1992*4##111)" with a smile.

No "probably" about it. That's definitely it.
I didn't come this far all by myself.
I'm thinking now about the time
When many people's faces will turn to smiles.
You'll be there beside me, already knowing before any of them...

How will it go from here??
I have no idea,
But I'm not worried at all.
Your smile is all the answer I need.
If you've deciphered the code,
There's one last thing I want to say to you, and that is...

Yuzu - Senaka

And the third completed fundraiser request I present today is a Yuzu song - which, as I expected from the other four Yuzu songs I translated in the past, was another interesting lyrical challenge. Intimidating at first, but once I stopped looking at it from line-to-line and took it all in as a whole, it came much easier. n_n So with that, enjoy - Senaka by Yuzu!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Yuzu - Senaka (Your Back)

RomajiCollapse )

As you watered the garden, I realized that your back looked so small
Left behind by the flow of time, the traces of that day are far away
Looking back on my childhood memories, I remember begging you not to go
Clinging to you and asking "Is there something more important than me?"

As you walked down the path you believed in
I only saw your back, living so strongly, but you never turned around
I called to you, but my voice faded before it could reach you
And I learned what loneliness is

When you grabbed my red hair and shouted "Get out of here"
I told you, "It's not like I wanted to be born into this house"
I couldn't see tomorrow, everything seemed so empty
Unable to even come up with a dream, I was always blaming someone else

I closed off my heart before I ever knew love
Afraid to believe, I was only lying to myself
When feelings I couldn't express in words started to overflow
I sang them in a song

After many meetings and partings, before I knew it I had grown up
And now I'm standing at a huge crossroads in my life
I think now I can understand the feelings I couldn't then
And how much weight you carried on your back as you walked

A lullaby from that day long ago comes back to me
Your gentle back, and the voice I heard singing
Two shadows cast by the evening light
Overlapped to become one

Time flows on...
I'm still not good at expressing what I feel
All I can do is show it in a song like this
But this path I've walked along with you
I'm proud of it now

As you water the garden, I softly start to talk to your back
For letting me be born to you
From the bottom of my heart... "thank you"

RIP SLYME - Tales

I've had some pretty interesting songs requested during this little donation drive dealie :D (and I hope there will be even more to come *coughahemhintplugcough*) This second one of today's completed batch is by RIP SLYME... and it intimidated me at first, since it's so long (lyrically) and seemed to jump around a lot in its story/theme... but once I got the romanizing done and sat back to take a good look at the whole song, it fell together a lot easier than I expected. ^__^ Turned out to be a fun one. So here is Tales by RIP SLYME!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

RIP SLYME - Tales

RomajiCollapse )

This rail connects me from here to you
After that a new way will be born
Beyond that door, the faint scent remains
Ah~

We passed each other by (honey) I mistook someone else for you (funny)
You disappeared unseen into the crowd
Same for that person, and that person there too
If you're lonely, I'll shine this light for you
You're not the only one whispering that the glow is warm
Everyone hurts, everyone cries, but they still try
You'll find someone to share your love with
In this assorted mix of a town, you'll feel what's most important in many different forms
If you give voice to what you want to say
And sing it out loud, Il's here beside you to start singing too [1]

When you're sick of it all and feeling down
When you lash out with "What do you expect to do now?"
When you feel the frustration piling up
That can be seen as strength too, can't it!?
The generations flow by like the wind
Disappearing in winter to be born again in spring
The ups and the downs, the light and the dark
I can realize it's all to spice things up until I get there
That's why it's so easy
Free like the clouds in the sky
It's even better as long as we stay connected
To spend the same times together

Drift on, far away
The tale I want to tell to someone somewhere
Shine a light at the end of that tunnel
Ah~

Where you at? Where you from?
How far can we go from here?
The goal ('cause you know)
Can't be too far away, there's no reason to rush
Let's keep going without changing the course
Even if we never find a shortcut
Back & Forth Forth & Back
Drowsing off beyond the scrolling window
As I look over the scenery, once I'm out of the darkness
What relaxes me is that neighborhood flavor
Day in, day out, a short-lived laid-back attitude everywhere

I'm sure I won't forget as I wander alone in this town
The good luck charm I had cast since that day
We're all just plain ordinary people gone astray
If I have something to protect, I wanna protect it to the end
Stuck between something and something
Every time I look in the mirror I feel troubled; what is it I need? It's every day
Before I knew it, I've already forgotten
Since I left the womb I've met people, left people
Asked "How are you doing?", felt feelings
Believing that certain someone is watching from somewhere, that our hearts are connected
Under this vast sky

This rail connects me from here to you
After that a new way will be born
Beyond that door, the faint scent remains
Drift on, far away
The tale I want to tell to someone somewhere
Shine a light at the end of that tunnel
Ah~

[1] That "Il's here beside you" part... the original lyrics say "iru" in katakana, so based on that, the rest of that line, and the structure, I'm pretty sure it's referring to Ilmari, one of the members of RIP SLYME. Unfortunately I don't know the group well enough to know which voice is his, but those of you who do... that sounds right, right? :D;;; *runs*

Shibasaki Kou - Kage

Another fundraiser request fulfilled! This time I present Kage by Shibasaki Kou, used as the theme to the drama Byakuyakou, which I haven't seen but based on the synopsis I believe these lyrics are connected to its story.

...Remember in the fundraiser intro post when I mentioned songs that contain Japanese so complicated, even native speakers have trouble figuring them out? Yeah, this is one of those. >>;; There were several strange and unfamiliar phrases in this song that none of my dictionaries or reference sites could help with, and when I tried Google, most of the sites that turned up were... the lyrics to this song. Which leads me to believe a lot of these terms don't actually exist anywhere but in Kage. >_> Most of the rest were links to Yahoo! Answers with Japanese people asking what certain parts meant, and I even found an entire blog post by a Japanese guy who found at least one word/phrase in nearly every verse that he couldn't make sense of.

This was definitely an interesting challenge. XD I like that, though - it's how I learn!

So, hopefully this translation turned out reasonably correct, and follows the story of the protagonists in Byakuyakou as I hoped it would. I'll let you folks be the judge...

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

Shibasaki Kou - Kage (Shadow)

RomajiCollapse )

"Where am I now?"
I'm not particularly interested
In being in that position
Two thorns paired together
I never had anyone to trust
From the start
Surely I'll never know
Even a taste of peace

Ah, even if they lay down the weight they carry
The two companions who should love each other
Will never be as one

To carry my sadness is all I can do
With what little strength I have left
I see a vision of you
I'm not afraid to be alone
...I whispered softly

Long ago, my mother said
"There's nothing here
We have nothing
To search for"

As you picked up a seed of something unknown
So it would at least not sink to the depths
I watched you from behind...

I'll connect the dreams that were nearly broken
And safely bring today to an end
I'll surround you
And you'll be my one and only sustenance
...I whispered softly

I'll become a second sun and pray [1]
That you will find happiness
I'll let out a bit of what I feel
And all that will remain after that
Will be the traces of my breath...

[1] The actual term used here refers to a natural phenomenon known as the parhelion, or sundog, in which ice crystals in the air bend sunlight so that they appear to form a halo around the sun - and if they're aligned right, two spots of light form on opposite ends of the halo that can be almost as bright as the sun itself. (Check out the wiki, it's pretty neat!) Moreso, however, the term seems to be connected to the story of Byakuyakou - Ryoji, who takes to a life of crime to support his love, Yukiho, vows to become the sun of the dark "underground" world of crime, to shine on her up in the regular world. I hope that makes sense...

V6 - Generation Gap

And here's another donation drive request fulfilled within 24 hours - Generation Gap by V6 ^^ ...lol, I checked Youtube for a streaming version of this song that I could use to check the romaji, and all I could find was a video of some guy singing it in a karaoke box. It was... um. Yeah, if you want to get to know a new song, do NOT introduce it to your brain starting with a karaoke-fied version. >>;;

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

V6 - Generation Gap

RomajiCollapse )

No matter what I ask, your answer is "Cool"
You're like a robot with a fixed program
Can't you enjoy yourself a little more freely?
Let's break out of this generation gap full of nothing but restraint
This is our age

That smile makes me anxious about the future
Even if it's just a small dream, let me hear it
There's no reason to give up on anything
Yet this generation gap with all its rules is just too uptight
This is our age
Generation gap, let's just relax and talk
I think we've got plenty of time

Let's exchange fragments of our secrets
They can give you courage deep in your heart at any time

Let's reach out our hands and look at each other
I want to feel love more
Let's spread out our hands and dream
And make our heart bigger

The door to the heart is always shut tight
Trying to access it like the manual says isn't enough to make it open
There's so much of the world I don't know
I can't go along with this pushy generation gap
This is our age
Let's make a generation gap mix
I think it'll have a pretty good flavor

I'm not even good at crying, so I'm storing all my teardrops
In this little box, and look, it's about to overflow now

Let's reach out our hands and catch it
I want to know love more
Let's reach out our hands and look at each other
I want to feel love more
Let's spread out our hands and dream
And make our heart bigger

TOKIO - Robou no Hana

Requests have been low for the first couple days of Taiji Project's Japan fundraiser... but four is better than none ♥ And it's still early, right? *is hopeful*

Anyway, here's another request from this morning - Robou no Hana by TOKIO! Another one with a really neat story/message that I really got into as I worked on it... ^^ Enjoy!

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

TOKIO - Robou no Hana (Flowers on the roadside)

RomajiCollapse )

Standing tall and proud, but not for anyone's sake
As if they just want to stay unnoticed
The flowers on the roadside
I decided I'd try to live like them

I learned the strength of the wind and how to balance
But it doesn't work out as I'd hoped
On the way home in the evening
A tiny life taught me

It's okay to be like this all the time

Even when the rain falls, even when the wind blows
The flowers will each bloom in their own way again
It's the same for us; we only have to wait for that time
A day when each one of us can shine
It will come continually in turns,
In some corner of this corporeal world

The time when I could share everything with lots of friends
The time when we could just laugh together
And the day when I can show someone
Proof that I was alive

I'll always hold them in my heart

Even the smallest flowers
Brilliantly celebrate their own colors
They only have to wait for the the time when they'll bloom naturally
Each looking up to its own sky
I don't need any special magic,
I'll do everything just as I am

If someone else's life appears more beautiful
Surely there's no need to be exceedingly jealous
But if the tears I've shed will rehydrate me someday
Maybe it's okay to cry now and then (...it's okay)

Phrases of hope are so abundant, they're overflowing
But all you need is just one song of your own
Everything we are will become a new song
The stories of each one of us

Even when the rain falls, even when the wind blows
The flowers will each look for their own place again
No matter where they hide, the sun will rise
And shine upon each of their days
Goodnight, flower inside me,
Until the day I see you again
Until the day we bathe in the light and laugh again

BUMP OF CHICKEN - Sharin no Uta

And here's the second song requested as part of Taiji Project's effort to send some relief to Japan - Sharin no Uta by BUMP OF CHICKEN! I love the story in this song... so simple yet sweet. ♥

This song was requested and translated as part of Taiji Project's fundraiser for disaster relief in Japan. If you're interested in sending a request along with a donation too, please check this post for details!

BUMP OF CHICKEN - Sharin no Uta (Song of the Wheels)

RomajiCollapse )

The rusted wheels creak
As they carry us toward the station at dawn

On my back as I pedal
I can feel the definite warmth of you leaning on me

Riding up the hill alongside the train line
Calling "Almost there, just a little more" from behind me, you sound like you're having fun

The town was far too silent
I quietly muttered "It feels like there's only the two of us"

We were both out of words when we reached the top of the hill
The dawn that greeted us was far too beautiful

You laughed then, didn't you? Behind my back
I couldn't turn around to look because I was crying

I'm not very familiar with the town
That the most expensive ticket on the far end of the ticket machine goes to

I safely stored away my platform ticket,
The cheapest one of them all, even though I'd have to use it right away

The big bag you bought two days ago
Got stuck in the ticket gate so you couldn't walk through, and you looked at me

I nodded without meeting your eyes
And let go of the strap I had stubbornly grabbed

The echoing bell marks our last moment, and the door meant just for you opens
As you took the one step that covered more distance than millions, you said

"Promise we'll meet again someday, no matter what"
I couldn't answer; I just kept my head down and waved

There's no mistaking it - at that time, you were...

I flew faster than the wind
Down the hill alongside the train line, trying to catch up to you
The rusted wheels creaked
I tried my hardest to stay even with the train
But little by little it left me behind

You were crying then, weren't you? On the other side of that door
I could tell without even seeing your face, because your voice was shaking

I promise we'll meet again someday, no matter what
I waved as hard as I could so you could see me as you drifted away

The town started to grow noisy
But, I quietly muttered, it feels like I'm the only one here

The rusted wheels creak
As they carry me away, left behind
Only a faint warmth remaining

Kagaya Rei - Salaam Aleykum

Finally kicking off Taiji Project's disaster relief fundraiser with the first song request fulfilled - Salaam Aleykum by Kagaya Rei! (My apologies if that title is spelled wrong; a million Google searches turned up a million different possible spellings x_x But I do know the title is a greeting meaning something like "Peace be with you")

This one was a bit of a challenge as neither I nor the requester could find the original kanji lyrics ANYWHERE, but fortunately the vocalists did a good job and sang it clearly enough for me to transcribe. I think. Pretty sure. Nah, I'm fairly confident in how it turned out. n_n

Kagaya Rei - Salaam Aleykum

RomajiCollapse )

Birds fly up into the sky, breaking free of the blue winds
As the sun smiles upon everyone, I can feel life in the light it pours out

Treading feet leave their prints in the soft soil, releasing its fragrance
Are fallen leaves blown upon the wind so that new sprouts can grow?

A lonely traveler from another time wandering in the rugged mountains
Thinks of the river flowing to the sea as the sweat and tears of another land

The murmuring voices of the forest, the proud gathering of clouds
The world spreads wide open toward a beautiful you

Fallen flowers lie face-down amidst differing beliefs
In the endless rain, how many prayers are now raised and where are they going?

We were born onto this blue planet with the courage to gaze into each other's eyes
I won't let go of this miracle that brought us together

la la la la...

MARCH 28: Fundraiser's done and final statements are here! Many thanks to everyone who contributed! ♥

What we didCollapse )
It's no secret that Japan is in desperate need right now. Not only for money and food and clean water, but for hope and prayers and light and love. And it just so happens that THE SOUND BEE HD released a gorgeous song on their 2010 mini-album Doku that expresses their wish to send light and love to all.

This song has been running through my head for two days, and earlier today I let their bassist know that... and she immediately gave me her blessing to translate the lyrics and share them with everyone around the world whose heart is aching for Japan's plight.

So here you go, straight from the hearts of Daisuke, You, Tak, Yuichi, and Hiro of THE SOUND BEE HD - with the wish of light and love for all.

If you enjoy the song, please consider buying the mini-album, Doku, from the label online shop HERE. A portion of all profits earned is being donated to SHOW YOUR HEART, the quake relief fundraiser started by Gackt himself, effective until April 30. Thank you!

THE SOUND BEE HD - Subete ni Hikari o Subete ni Ai o

RomajiCollapse )

Please teach me
The limits of sadness
Please teach me
The limits of love

Tonight
I miss you
I'm hurting
I send my wish to the sky

May there be light for all
May there be love for all
If this is the world you created
May there be light for all
May there be love for all
Broken fragments of love will become the wind

Please teach me
The reason I was born
Please teach me
The ones most precious to me

Tonight
I miss you
I'm hurting
I send my prayer to the sky

May there be light for all
May there be love for all
If it is our fate to quickly scatter and fall
May there be light for all
May there be love for all
The setting sun will never die away

May there be light for all
May there be love for all

May there be light for all
May there be love for all
If this is the world you created
May there be light for all
May there be love for all
Broken fragments of love will become the wind

Broken fragments of love will become the wind

Luzmelt - melt away

Finally back with what will probably be the last Luzmelt song we'll see for a few months, which is gonna feel weird after all the stuff they released in 2010... a mini-album each in February and March, a single in May, a single in July, and a single each month from October through December. And in the same 10 months, appearances in the US, Europe, and Canada, AND three members leaving the band. Talk about a busy 2010. x_x They deserve this little break they're taking until the end of March...

Anyway, today I present the first track from their December release, Oracion (which actually had two tracks, but the second one has already been translated) - the toothachingly-sweet melt away. Yuhma said on his blog when he was writing this song that he dedicated it to all their fans, and I think you'll see it as you read the lyrics. I've never seen a band love on their fans as much as these guys do. ;_;

Luzmelt - melt away

RomajiCollapse )

The music of a faraway rainbow draws me closer
I embrace the throbbing in my chest
Leaving only my cracked feelings behind
Silent as an hourglass...

I won't look back again
So let's head toward the future

Like the birds taking flight in the great sky
I want to shine brightly with you forever
Our dream is still too far away for us to see, but
Someday the sadness will disappear into the light

A rain of falling stars guided me
To this place overflowing with brilliant colors

I haven't even been able to atone yet
It makes my chest hurt, but

Enveloped by miracles spreading on and on with no end
I won't forget the smiles that bloomed so radiantly
I believe in your feelings as you journey into a new world
And I'll always be here waiting for you

An amber glow
Bursts high into the sky
Memories pile up in my hands
brilliant colors

Like the stars shining in the sky
I want to keep writing this story with you forever
Our dream is still too far away for us to see, but
Someday the sadness will disappear into the light
I'll be with you
I'm waiting for you

Luzmelt - Envelope

Second track of the maxi single Luzmelt released in November is Envelope - which, to me, will always be "Nov's song." Because WOAH, that bass line. *__* Fear the tiny ones! *smacked* Ahem... yeah, it's a very cool song overall though. I kinda worry that some stuff might have been lost in translation, but I tried...

Luzmelt - Envelope

RomajiCollapse )

The shock freezes me and I fall...
Lustfully I dream in the embrace of the lens

I melt under the caress of the right brain...
The mirror breaks, vomiting glass

Accelerating theory

no more time
"craze" unknown...

Let's stop time and go up to that sky
There's no meaning in the trap's intentions

why not? guess me no love?
bright... drive me crazy
why not? kiss me entwine together
bright... drive me crazy

The dream I whisper in the withered forest in my final moment
Is exposed to the light

no more time
"craze" unknown...

Let's stop time and go up to that sky
There's no meaning in the trap's intentions
Let's stop time and go up to that sky
Erase everything with your own hands

why not? guess me I want to love
bright... drive me crazy
why not? kiss me entwine together
bright... "shade"

blue velvet lost for
It's sad, isn't it? I wish I'd met you sooner
The past, the present, the future
I'll never let any of them go

"ice dissolves..."

Luzmelt - ACID

Finally, getting caught up on Starwave-and-related-label releases from up to three months ago! >>; there's actually several more Starwave songs I've been meaning to get to but keep getting other things dumped on me orz

Anyway, at last I'm ready to get the two tracks from Luzmelt's November release, imitation galaxy, out into the world :D ACID is first, and I don't really know how to explain it, but somehow the title totally fits the arrangement in my mind. It's kinda awesome. ♥

Luzmelt - ACID

RomajiCollapse )

Swept away by the darkness clad in ashes
I can only sink down to the earth and wait for the dawn

Beneath the neon lights that invite suspicion, unable to do a thing

shiver...
I gazed into the floating abyss
As if to sneer at it

The dreams fluttering down illuminate the truth
There's nothing here...

The one to wriggle inside me
Transient existence is drawn
A decorated dancing fixer
The one to wriggle inside me
Transient existence is drawn
Only emptiness...

I can't escape the voice that stabs me deeper every time it repeats
Even if I reach out in search of the light that I lost, I can't reach it now

Coward insulted impurity and deprived of view
The withering flower never shines

The darkening sun wavers brilliantly
Acid pours down...

I can't escape the voice that stabs me deeper every time it repeats
Even if I reach out in search of the light that I lost, I can't reach it
Though I've bid farewell to my monochrome days, once again I'm alone
I hold close the shards of love and dreams that I've gathered up... and start off again

Toward the sunlit place where this cracked future sleeps
