It's been a loooooong time coming, but I finally wrote up a FAQ to keep linked up on the Taiji Project profile. Keep in mind that this is subject to change.

Massively long, so click here to readCollapse )

Got a question that wasn't answered here? Ask away in a comment, and I'll either answer you directly or add it to the FAQ (or both)!

WOW!I just came here to read this. I think you're a star and absolutely amazing for doing this for the rest of us who don't understand Japanese.

It was a really interesting FAQ too! I had no idea you had already done the whole series in ten months!!! Really makes me wish I knew the language.

I've always wanted to know, how long does it take to translate just one episode of D no Arashi? Just typing a group conference word for word is time consuming enough, but then to translate it all! Well you're brilliant! just wanted to let you know.

Hmm... it's hard to say, since there were several different levels of difficulty between all the D no Arashi episodes. Also, I tend to lose track of time when I translate things XD;; But I'd say maybe... 4-6 hours is probably a pretty safe estimate. Unless it was a really difficult episode that needed more attention (or a clip show, which saved a lot of time since I could copy-paste half of them XD).

I know this seems slow but I finally got the chance to quickly read through your FAQ a bit. You've probably heard this before, but don't mind me if I'm being repetitive. If anyone was to complain to you (be it if they've read this FAQ or not), then they really deserve a smack. There should be no reason at all for anyone to be annoyed at anything you're doing because I think what you're doing about your fansubs/translations are absolutely reasonable. I would definitely do the same, or maybe even stricter. ^^; IMO, I think you're one of the best fansubber out there. You're fast and your subs are very nicely done :)
Anyways I'm getting ranty also ^^' just wanted to say all this and say thank you for everything, your hard work is very very appreciated :)

Aww, thanks so much ^_^ I'm just glad there's something I could contribute to a fandom full of such amazing, understanding people - when I first started all this, I never expected it would receive such a huge positive response as it has. And hearing that people are enjoying it so much makes all the effort worthwhile. ♥

What is your policy on using screencaps from your videos? I just got this urge to share some screencaps from DnA095 on my journal because of the LOLs and it's nice have caps with the translations so people understand the LOLs but I will not post caps of your subs if you don't want that.

Sure, I'm totally ok with screencaps! They're always good for promotion, after all XD

Thanks for asking permission first! ^_^

I really appreciate the way you translate your fansubs, from some one who's been home studying Japanese for about 5 years ( not anywhere near fluent, but i know a significant amount), yours are a good example of a healthy medium from being accurate from the original Japanese, and actually sounding like decently spoken English, that doesn't sound too mechanical but how regular English speakers would actually speech.
please continue keep up the good work, thanks for everything you do ^_^

I'm really glad to hear that! ^__^ My main focus in translating is to try and capture the nuances and attitudes of the original speaker in decent, natural-sounding English, all the while trying to maintain accuracy... it's not always easy, but hearing that it seems to be paying off always makes me happy :D So glad you're enjoying everything, and thank you for the compliment! ♥

Becky! You are amazing! You've already translated all of the episode!!! To be able to do all that is just simply amazing! And I respect and admire your hard work because I'm also planning on taking Japanese courses when I go to college (and that time is slowly coming... eek! XD) I'm still deciding on whether I will major in it though... ahaha! Well, I just really want to say thank you for all of your fansubs!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Hi hi! I just wanted to know if it was ok if I made a video using some of the clips from the videos you subbed. I will credit of course!

Sure, using clips is fine! If you decide to upload it to any streaming sites, just a note like "subbed clips used with permission" is fine (no name or link except in personal posts and stuff). Thanks for checking with me first ^_^

So I just sent a request to join the community... Will I be able to access all the subbed files there that are in this journal?
taijiproject
Sep. 17th, 2008 06:22 pm (UTC)
Sadly I can't add new members to the fansub filter in this journal anymore since LJ won't allow more than 2000 friends, but all the subs in this journal are available at the community anyway, so you won't miss anything :D

Hey I think this must be quite some time ago since you didn't include it in your list of completed fansubs, but did you by chance sub the Kindaichi Shounen no Jikembo 3 SP (Murder on the magic express)? Because I read somewhere that it had been subbed by you but i'm not really sure. If you did, i was wondering if you still have it and can upload it >_< Or is it because of copyright issues that you can't?

Hi Becky ~~~

Could you tell me something about the main color of Jun and Aiba.
Because in DnA and GnA, I saw that Jun's text color is green and Aiba's text color is pink...
But in MMA I saw that Jun's text color is purple and Aiba's text color is green...
Are there the reason that you use these colors in different ? Because at first time I thought that you used the text's color from the main color of each Arashi's member but when I saw MMA, the text color of Jun and Aiba were changed, so I confuse about it ne ~~~

Jun's and Aiba's colors are always a subject of confusion. :P In DnA, GnA, and AnS, they made Jun green and Aiba pink... but in MMA, GRA, and some of their other newer series, they made Jun purple and Aiba green. I think part of the reason is because these shows were produced by different TV networks (DnA, GnA and AnS were on NTV, while MMA and GRA were on Fuji), so the different network staffs had different ideas.

As for me, I just use the colors that were used in the specific show I'm subbing, so my colors match the ones on the screen. So for the NTV shows I make Jun green and Aiba pink, and for the Fuji shows I make Jun purple and Aiba green. And for videos that weren't on either of those networks (TFP, variety shows, concert clips, etc)... I just go for whatever color feels right to me at the time. ^^;

I read through this FAQ and wow am I impressed^^
I'm currently facing abit of prob with downloading the files cos everytime it reached 99%, there will be some internet error, but I guess it's pretty much my own prob. Hope it will somehow be solved soon so I get to enjoy your wonderful videos :D

Yeah, that sounds like maybe a problem with a browser stalling or unstable internet connection. If you're not already, maybe you can try using the Mediafire or ZShare links? They're split into smaller sizes, so maybe they could finish quickly before any problems can come up ^^

I hope something works out for you!
